Mt. Elgon National Park | Sipi Falls | Mabira Forest

National parks in the East-North part of Uganda

Eastern Uganda is big on water adventures most of which take place in Jinja, Uganda’s adventure capital and home to the River Nile (the starting point of the world’s longest river).
A few hours’ drive further towards the border of Kenya brings you to Uganda’s second highest mountain Mount Elgon, a dormant volcano with craters lakes that feed the countries highest waterfall (Sipi Falls dropping over a 100 meters).
Not so far from there is Nyero Rock painting, a collection of pre-historic rock art illustrated by one of Uganda’s only indigenous tribes, the Batwa.

This trip leads you to the heart of the Albertine Rift Valley, a multi-award winning gem that has it all; pristine savannah parks with thriving populations of Big 5 animals, the 10 most sought birds in Uganda, pristine rain forests with 13 species of both wild and habituated primates, thousands of rolling hills, crater lakes that have been repeatedly ranked among the world’s 10 most beautiful.
Brace yourself for a remarkable journey into ancient Africa as you explore six kingdoms, most of which were founded over four centuries back.
The landscape here is largely hilly and features extensive tea and coffee plantations and well-maintained plantain farms.
The highest landmark here is Rwenzori, a majestic mountain that offers endearing climbing challenges destined to the third highest summit in Africa, Margherita(5,109meters above sea level). If you wish to encounter snow on the Equator, it’s one of the only four places in Africa that experiences winter all year.
